Ubisoft has launched a new AI tool called Ubisoft Ghostwriter to assist their scriptwriters in creating NPC scripts.

Get to know Ubisoft Ghostwriter
According to the description in the video, Ubisoft Ghostwriter will be used to generate first drafts of crowd chat and triggered NPC dialog. Ubisoft says that the use of AI will allow their narrative team to work on less repetitive tasks.
Ubisoft Ghostwriter technology was created by Ubisoft La Forge, Ubisoft’s research and development department.

Introducing Ubisoft Ghostwriter, an internally developed AI tool that aims to support our scriptwriters by generating first drafts of our NPC barks – phrases or sounds made by NPCs when players interact with the game world.
This tool was created together with the scriptwriter to create more realistic NPC interactions by generating variations on a piece of dialog. See how our team will use AI to handle repetitive tasks and free up time to work on other core game elements.

How have other video game developers responded?
After the announcement, many video game developers on social media reacted negatively to Ubisoft’s announcement and called for the company to invest in human writers instead.

As a writer, editing scripts/dialogs created by AI sounds much more time-consuming than just writing temporary dialogs. I’d much rather AAA studios use whatever budget it takes to create a tool like this than hire more writers.
